Advertisement for the Dearing Studio, Chatham, Virginia, 1916

Above is an advertisement for the Dearing Studio in Chatham, Virginia. The Dearing family’s home/studio was located behind the Chatham Post Office. Here is a view of Mr. Dearing and his camera:

And here is another interior view of the Dearing home (these pictures may be from the 1920s):

I am not sure who shared the Dearing advertisement with me. The photographs of the Dearing home/studio are courtesy the Virginia/North Carolina Piedmont Genealogical Society in Danville, Virginia.

“Pals”

Another negative from the Dearing family collection — unfortunately, we don’t know who the individuals were, but evidently they were pals! Probably the photograph was taken somewhere in the Chatham/Pittsylvania County area; if anyone recognizes the youths, please comment.

Someone (presumably Mr. Dearing) wrote on the bottom of the negative; when I scanned it and made a negative of the negative (does that make sense?), the word appeared in white.

Photographer B. L. Dearing

In the early 1900s, B.L. Dearing was a photographer in Chatham, Virginia. His studio was located in his house on Reid Street (behind the present-day post office on Main Street).

It is believed that this photograph was taken in his studio in Chatham.  Mr. Dearing was looking into a mirror when he took this shot.
